Dexter Gordon - With a huge, honking tenor sound, an amazing bebop jazz vocabulary, and a lot of love in his playing, Dexter was a prominent figure in jazz. Nicknamed the "Sophisticated Giant" for his tall figure together with his complex style of playing, Dexter was also a pioneer in spreading the jazz tradition in Europe and touring around the globe. He settled in Copenhagen, Denmark, in the 1960s and inspired young jazz musicians in the city. Later, his famous "homecoming" back to New York was key to reestablishing the American jazz tradition during the 1970s and 1980s.
